Citrus Canker is a disease affecting all citrus species that is caused by the bacterium Xanthomonas axonopodis. Infection causes leaves and fruit to drop prematurely. DISEASE SYMPTOMS
- Defoliation
- Blemished fruit
- Premature fruit drop
- Twig dieback
- Water-soaked lesions on both sides of leaves
CAUSE
- A bacterium: Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. citri
- The bacterium reproduces in lesions on leaves, stems and fruit. When there is moisture on the lesions, the bacteria seep out and can spread to new growth and other trees.
