Apichai Tuanyok, previously from University of Hawaii at Manoa, is currently working on researching Melioidosis and its impact on Southeast Asia. He is trying to figure out effective treatment and early diagnosis for the disease. Research is also focused on the genotype classification of the bacteria Burkholderia pseudomallei, which causes the disease.

Along with is work at the University of Florida, Tuanyok is the chair of the Organizing Committee 8th World Melioidosis Congress, an conference event that brings together some of the best Melioidosis researchers of the world together.
